Kindness, intuition, compassion, empathy - these are the qualities I bring to my work as a yoga therapist. From the first time this reserved midwesterner stepped foot into a yoga class, I was taken with the power of yoga. It is a practice that goes so much deeper than a series of physical poses or exercises; it possesses a capacity to address each of us as a whole being - physical, emotional and spiritual in its dimensions. Yoga has helped me manage and significantly reduce chronic lower back pain. It has helped me manage anxiety. It has given me the opportunities to replace old ways of living that no longer served me—such as overthinking and overdoing— with practices that have led to a more embodied way of living in the world. It is this deep power inherent in the yogic tradition that led me over the past 10 plus years to evolve from an avid yoga student to a certified yoga teacher (RYT-500), and finally to a Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), earning a Master’s of Science in Yoga Therapy from Maryland University of Integrative Health.
What inspires me so deeply about yoga therapy is its ability to combine modern scientific knowledge with the wisdom of a thousands-of-years-old tradition to create a form of therapy that addresses the whole human being.
